Earlier this month The Acoustic Technology Group travelled to KAIST to kick off the Signature project: Acoustic Metamaterials as Engineering Components.

The Signature project is a collaborative project between DTU Elektro and KAIST, with 2 phd students and 2 postdocs involved from DTU Elektro. The collaboration between the acoustics group at DTU Elektro and KAIST Mechanical Engineering has grown steadily since the dual degree program in acoustics was established in 2012. The two research groups have identified a large potential for using the idea of metamaterials in Engineering applications and so the trip was planned so as to deepen the collaboration between the two groups. The intention of this initial meeting was also to led the way for the aforementioned students who will visit KAIST on their future individual, external stays.

The two groups spent the days presenting their work to each other and discussing the finer details of the project. On the last afternoon of the stay, the KAIST hosts invited the Danish Group to go hiking in the mountains and to visit a Buddhist temple.  Several KAIST PhD students joined this activity, enabling everyone a chance to get to know each other a little more informally.

The collaboration with KAIST is a strategic one with DTU and KAIST now sharing quite a long history. This connection they share also provides a good opportunity for further research collaborations.
