The Acoustic Technology group and the Centre for Acoustic-Mechanical Micro Systems held their annual presentation day on 14th June 2018.

The two groups’ current activities and research projects were once again presented to our numerous collaboration partners, guests from the Industry and colleagues and friends from the acoustical world.

After a brief introduction, where group leader Finn Agerkvist presented a quick summary of how the two groups are set up, he then went on to highlight the most recent projects being done. These include projects by our PhD researchers; Jakob Nygård Wincentz; Investigation of the Relationships between the Subjective Assessment and Objective Parameters of Music Listening Spaces & Daniel Gert Nielsen; Optimization of Loudspeakers using Material and Shape Optimization, as well as Samuel Arturo Verburg Riezu, who is soon due to start his PhD on identifying sound fields in large rooms.

A mention was also given to the group’s latest collaboration with KAIST. The joint venture on Acoustic Metamaterials and Engineering Components will provide several PhD positions. At DTU, these include projects on; Improved sound insulation, Broadband absorbers using metamaterials and Optimization of loudspeakers as well as a Post Doc on Active/Adaptive materials. At KAIST, the venture will provide 4 PhD positions. These include projects on High dynamic range microphones, Effect of fluid viscosity in meta materials, Topology optimization of meta materials and Shape optimization of meta materials.

Efrén Fernandez Grande’s recent VILLUM Young Investigator grant will provide a further 3 PhDs and 2 postdoc positions starting in 2018. The aim of this project will be to develop experimental methods to capture and reconstruct the full three-dimensional sound field inside a room.

The day’s program included presentations from many of the groups Phd students. These included presentations from Peter Risby Andersen; Acoustic shape optimization using the boundary element method, Gerd Høy Marbjerg; Loudspeaker auralisations for a phased geometrical room acoustic model & Mélanie Nolan; Characterizing sound field diffusion based on array processing.

The annual ACT/CAMM presentation day is an essential arena where the work carried out by the groups can be presented, and open discussions and new ideas for collaboration between industry and research can continue to thrive.
